A great display of support was shown for our military by the great turnout - more than 50 Melissa residents gathered at the obelisk for the 2022 Memorial Day ceremony to pay homage to Melissa’s fallen military heroes at 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 30th.
Melissa Rotary Club hosts the annual Memorial Day presentation on the west side of the Melissa City Hall at the Armed Forces obelisk. This year, Rotary member Kathy Mixon facilitated the ceremony, introducing first Tyler Normand, youth pastor for First Melissa, and then Madison Fulenchek, who played taps.

Normand led a devotional prayer, and then gave an inspiring talk about our fallen heroes and the importance of remembering the lives sacrificed by our armed forces in protecting the United States of America and our allied countries and interests worldwide in helping to preserve our freedom.

Fulenchek played taps, while Mixon called out the eight (8) Melissa armed forces members who died while on active duty to our nation.
This annual event by the Melissa Rotary Club was a good opportunity for the families to show their children the meaning behind Memorial Day, and how it is not only a national memorial, but that Melissa also honors those from our own community who gave their lives.
Following the ceremony, Mixon was available to answer questions for other military programs facilitated through the Melissa Rotary Club, such as the Melissa Honors Military.  Banners for those MHS graduates who are serving our country in the armed forces can be seen around the City Hall and community.
