The newly formed Melissa Fallen Warriors' Association, in conjunction with the Melissa Rotary Club, has begun work on obtaining permits and funds to install a polished triangular black granite monument at the Melissa City Hall Plaza.

At the 2022 Memorial Day ceremony by the Rotary Club, held at the obelisk at City Hall Plaza, Kathy Mixson, secretary of the Melissa Rotary Club, read the names of Melissa's fallen warriors, which she obtained from the National Archives in Washington, D.C.  This raised interest by those in attendance in having a monument displaying the names of those in the Melissa community who have died while in service to our country.

An association has been formed to facilitate obtaining and placing an engraved monument at City Hall Plaza.  This Fallen Warriors Association, in conjunction with the Melissa Rotary Club, would maintain the monument and update the names.

The members of the Fallen Warriors Association committee are:
Col. Andrew Lowery, Ret.
Casey Fulenchek
Kathy Mixson
Ken Truax
John Cave

Two initiatives are in progress that the Melissa community can participate in:
1.
Raising the $7,500 for the monument and engraving.
2.  Gathering the names of Melissa's fallen warriors who were not on the National Archives list.

If you have NAMES to submit, or would like to DONATE, please contact MelissaRotary@gmail.com.

On a continuing basis, the Association is asking for those in the Melissa area to:
  • submit any names of Melissa community members who are not on this list who died while in military service to our country.
