The Melissa Rotary Club has earned the Rotary Citation, the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve, for 2021-22
This past year, the club demonstrated a commitment to achieve its goals, which included a focus on serving and improving the City of Melissa, and supporting the organizations and members of the community.
These activities and events included:
- The American Flag Lease program (installing and retrieving flags throughout the community)
- Several blood drives
- Library work days
- Community and City projects and work days
- Supporting our military through the Fallen Warriors memorial program, Wreaths Across America at the Melissa cemetery, Melissa Honors Military banners program, Memorial Day program at the obelisk at City Hall, and the Building Homes for Heroes ceremony for Army Sergeant William DeWalt.
- Heart of Melissa community events facilitated by the Melissa Chamber of Commerce
- Youth scholarships for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and InterAct (ongoing youth program at the Melissa High School)
- MISD Teacher of the Year Award sponsor
- Ongoing weekly enlightening community speaker events, from the City, MISD, local businesses, health programs, human trafficking, renewable energy
- Financial support and education regarding international concerns such as eradication of polio
